10 real landing pages, four failures, one checklist to run on yours.
CPMs are up. Your landing page is the same as last year.
You're paying more per click than you were 18 months ago and sending that traffic to a landing page that's losing conversions above the fold.
A first-time visitor decides whether to keep scrolling in the first seconds. In that window, the page has to answer four questions:
> What you sell.> Why it's worth buying.> Why you're credible.> What to do next.
The landing page is usually where the money stops, and it rarely gets audited.
This newsletter runs 10 real DTC landing pages through the same four-point audit (with even more examples to show you what each element should look like).
Four fail, two pass, and there's a five-question checklist at the end to apply to your own page.
Most brands are still managing creator campaigns out of spreadsheets and one-off PDF briefs.
That's not a strategy. That's a bottleneck.
Your team is spending hours building briefs, chasing deliverables, and tracking who posted what, while your best creator relationships sit underutilized.
SuperBrief by Superfiliate fixes this. It turns a static brief into a complete workflow — from deliverables to gifting to content approval to payment. All in one tool.
No more switching between platforms. No more hiring headcount just to manage the chaos.
If your influencer program is still mostly manual, you're leaving revenue on the table.
The Four Questions Every Page Has to Answer Above the Fold
Hero Clarity:
Can a first-time visitor explain what you sell in one sentence using only what's above the fold?
The hero has one job: orient a cold visitor fast. If the answer requires reading three paragraphs or decoding abstract positioning language, the page is creating friction before the visitor has decided anything.
Value Proposition Placement:
Is your differentiator visible without scrolling, or buried further down the page?
A visitor who lands from a paid ad has no obligation to scroll. If the reason to buy here instead of anywhere else isn't visible immediately, a percentage of them won't find it.
Social proof positioning:
Is there credibility reinforcement above the fold, or is it wasted at the bottom?
A star rating with review count, a named press logo, or a visible customer number does work above the fold. Proof buried at the bottom of the page doesn't support the conversion decision when the visitor is making it.
Primary CTA dominance:
Is there one obvious next action, or competing CTAs fighting for attention?
Count the clickable actions visible above the fold. Navigation links, secondary CTAs, promotional banners, and social icons all compete with the primary action. When everything is clickable, nothing is primary.
Four Pages That Fail
Hero Clarity Failure:
This supplement brand leads with science positioning and microbiome language before answering the simplest ecommerce question: what exactly do you sell?
The aesthetic is premium and editorial, but a cold visitor has to work to orient themselves.
The category orientation is softer than a direct-response page can afford.
The homepage behaves more like a biotech manifesto than a commerce experience.
Value Proposition Failure:
This home goods brand communicates taste and aesthetic before it communicates utility.
A first-time visitor understands premium positioning immediately, but has to scroll to find out why they should buy here instead of anywhere else.
The differentiator doesn't appear above the fold, which means a percentage of paid visitors never find it.
Social Proof Failure:
This apparel brand's hero is visually clean and category-clear.
There's no review volume, star rating, or press authority in the hero section.
At a premium price point, aesthetic confidence alone doesn't close the trust gap with a cold visitor.
CTA Dominance Failure:
This accessories brand loads the above-the-fold section with competing attention paths: mission messaging, navigation choices, promotional framing, and shopping actions all at once.
Every attention path competes equally. Without a dominant next step, visitors stall.
Two Pages That Pass
OLIPOP compresses category clarity, differentiation, and trust into a small amount of visual real estate.
> The hero immediately communicates what OLIPOP is: a modern, healthier soda alternative.
> The differentiator (prebiotics, fiber, low sugar) surfaces in the hero messaging.
> The CTA hierarchy is clean with one obvious next action.
Liquid I.V. prioritizes conversion clarity over brand abstraction.
> The product category is immediately clear.
> Functional benefit is visible above the fold.
> Trust elements appear in the hero section.
> The path to purchase is unambiguous.
Both pages treat the homepage as an acquisition asset. A cold visitor has everything they need to decide before they scroll.
Run This Audit on Your Own Page
Pull up your landing page and work through these five questions. It takes about ten minutes and tells you exactly where to focus first.
If you covered everything below the hero, could a first-time visitor explain what you sell in one sentence?
Is your single biggest differentiator visible above the fold, or do you have to scroll to find it?
Is there at least one piece of social proof above the fold (a star rating with review count, a named press logo, or a named customer count)?
How many clickable actions are competing with your primary CTA above the fold? Count them.
Does your mobile above-the-fold show the same hero, value prop, CTA, and proof? Or does the mobile crop lose one of them?
If three or more answers came back wrong, the page is the leak. Fix the page before you touch the ads.
Final Thoughts
Paid traffic costs keep rising.
Shopify's most recent data puts global ecommerce conversion at 1.6% of visits, with mobile accounting for roughly 78% of retail site traffic.
A page converting at 1% instead of 3% on the same paid traffic means two out of three dollars spent on ads never had a chance.
Run the audit before the next campaign goes live.
