Amazon just created a new way to lose Q4 sales…

They just announced an October shopping event that could change your Q4 plan.

At Nord Media, we focus on profitable growth at scale, we help forecast revenue, and contribution margin goals, then build the marketing plans to execute those goals.

This means full clarity on testing, scaling and improving profitability at every aspect of your funnel.

Amazon announced Prime Big Deal Days for October 6–7 this week.

Early deals are already live.

Whether or not you sell on Amazon, the holiday wallet officially opens in three weeks.

That matters because October 6 isn't happening in isolation.

When shoppers start spending earlier, some of that spending gets pulled forward from the rest of Q4.

So the question isn't whether this affects your DTC brand.

It's which response you're running.

If you do not choose one on purpose, the calendar chooses the worst one for you.

There’s a point every year I call the September Freeze.

It’s the moment where your stack stops being something you can change and becomes something you have to live with.

After that, nobody wants to rethink their setup while traffic is flying.

That’s why every BFCM checklist somehow turns into 50 things.

But most of those things are simply downstream of two decisions:

1. Are you happy with the stack you’re taking into Q4?

If not, switch now. Omnisend gives you the same power as Klaviyo with an up to 35% smaller bill, plus free migration for all paid accounts in 5 days.

2. How much work are you still auditing manually?

Omnisend’s MCP connection lets you use Claude or ChatGPT to audit readiness, find revenue leaks, and check your setup from chat.

September is the last low-stakes window to change the machine.

Make the decisions before the freeze.

Why A Two-Day Amazon Event Is Your Problem Too

Here is why it lands on you even if you never touch Amazon.

Holiday spending this year is projected to grow about 2.6% overall and about 6.6% online, close to what it did last year. The pot of holiday money is barely bigger than it was in 2025.

When the pot is that flat, timing is the whole game.

A dollar a shopper spends in early October is a dollar that is gone before you get to November.

Amazon just told every shopper the season starts October 6, three weeks earlier than your November plan assumed.

So part of the money you were counting on for Black Friday is going to get spent before you show up.

It pulls your work forward too. Inventory and ad budget you lined up for November may need to be live in October instead.

Open your calendar, mark October 6 to 7 as a real demand window, and decide what you are doing inside it.

You Have Three Lanes Here

There are three honest responses to that window, and each fits a different brand.

1. Counter-program

Run your own moment on October 6–7.

If shoppers are already in-market, meet them there.

You don't have to let Amazon own the entire conversation just because Amazon created the event.

This fits brands with real gifting demand and the margin to compete in a crowded auction.

The tradeoff is attention.

You're entering the loudest part of the window, which means you're competing with every other brand that sees the same opportunity.

If you choose this lane, you need to have the offer, creative, inventory and messaging ready before October arrives.

Otherwise you're paying the cost of counter-programming without getting the benefit of being prepared.

2. Draft

Let Amazon have October 6–7.

Then make your move the following week.

The advantage here is timing.

Some shoppers will have already started holiday shopping. Some will have already spent.

But plenty will still be looking for gifts.

Your job is to catch them with a fresh reason to buy after the first wave has passed.

This fits brands that want holiday-shopper intent without the peak-auction tax.

The cost is patience and a little nerve, because you are letting the loud weekend pass before you move.

It works best when your category rewards consideration over impulse.

3. Hold

Do nothing in October.

Protect your budget, your price integrity and your attention for November.

This is a legitimate choice too.

This fits brands where Black Friday is the real event and October spend would only cannibalize it.

There is a cost, though.

You are deliberately giving competitors a month-long head start on holiday demand.

That's fine if you've made the decision consciously.

It's a problem if October simply passed because nobody decided what to do.

Match your brand to one of the three before you build anything else.

Three Questions Pick The Lane

If you are stuck between lanes, three questions settle it.

1. How gift-driven is your catalog?

The more naturally your products fit holiday gifting, the more October matters.

2. How exposed are you on Amazon already?

If you're selling there, Prime Big Deal Days is already participating in your Q4 whether you want it to or not.

3. What did your Q4 ledger leave open?

This is one of the open ones, and it just got a hard date attached.

The October decision should fit the constraints you've already committed to.

Don't Do The Default

There is a fourth response, and it is the one to avoid.

A competitor cuts prices on the morning of October 6, you panic, and you post a matching "us too" sale by lunch.

That's the worst version of counter-programming.

You get the pressure to discount.

But you don't get the benefit of having actually planned around the event.

And if you've spent the last few months building a price-integrity story, a reactive discount can create a different problem two issues from now.

On the 21st I get into how shoppers can now see your full price history, so an early markdown does not stay hidden.

The calendar is moving whether you make a decision or not.

So pick your lane this week.

What you build for Q4 sits on the call you make now.

Make it on purpose, before the calendar makes it for you.
