On March 31, Meta's engineering team published details on the Adaptive Ranking Model - a fundamental upgrade to how Instagram ads get ranked and served. I read the paper. Here's what it means for your account.

The system is already live on Instagram. These are the results:

  • +5% increase in ad click-through rate.

  • +3% increase in ad conversions for targeted users since Q4 2025.

These are platform-wide lifts (not a campaign test or a beta rollout).

When the algorithm gets better at finding the right buyers, the bottleneck moves to creative.

Meta can now identify high-intent buyers more accurately than before.

It’s time to focus on creative that converts those moments.

There’s a huge issue with launching affiliate discount codes.

You launch an affiliate code, it drives early sales, and within days, it's scraped onto some coupon-code website and sitting in a Reddit thread.

Once it’s all over the internet, you’re just bleeding margin.

The older affiliate tools weren't built to stop this. They track last-click and cut payouts, that's it. Code escapes, and your program manager is chasing invoices instead of growing the program.

There’s a brand new affiliate platform built for Shopify brands running creator-led programs called SATHI.

What got my attention was the code leak protection. It flags and shuts down codes before they hit coupon sites.

They also handle full attribution visibility and an affiliate loyalty layer in the same place, so it's a full swap for affiliates, not just another tool to bolt on.

Access is gated right now because they're manually reviewing the first cohort to make sure it's a fit.

What Changed

The Adaptive Ranking Model is a fundamental infrastructure upgrade to the system that decides which ad gets shown to which person at which moment.

The technical coverage has focused on model architecture, inference efficiency, hardware optimization.

What you need to know is simpler: what does this mean for how you run campaigns and build creative right now?

How the System Works

The old system ran the same ranking model on every ad request regardless of context. First-time browser or high-intent shopper who added to cart three times last week - same model complexity for both.

The Adaptive Ranking Model profiles each user once per page load. It reads behavioral history, intent signals, recent on-platform activity - then routes that request to the appropriate model complexity.

High-intent users with rich behavioral history get evaluated by the full LLM-scale model, which operates at roughly 10 billion floating-point operations and builds a far deeper picture of purchase intent.

Low-intent browsers get evaluated quickly with a lighter model.

Instead of running the same model on everyone, Meta now adjusts model depth based on each user's purchase signals.

As a result, Meta builds a richer, more accurate picture of purchase intent for high-value users than it has ever been able to before.

Common Thread Collective's analysis frames the shift clearly - when the algorithm gets better at finding the right people, the bottleneck moves to creative.

What This Means for Creative Strategy

A more accurate targeting system is only as valuable as the creative it has to work with.

Brands still running generic hooks and broad-appeal messaging will see the algorithm deliver their ads to better audiences - and those audiences will bounce because the creative doesn't speak to them specifically.

Here’s what the new system rewards:

Specificity over breadth in creative hooks.

The old framing was "stop the scroll." The new framing is "identify your buyer in the first three seconds."

Creative that signals clearly who it's for and what problem it solves feeds the model better data than creative optimized purely for raw engagement. A hook designed to attract everyone attracts the algorithm's interest but not the buyer's attention.

This reinforces the same direction covered in the April 9th newsletter on Andromeda's audience quality signals.

Creative variety over creative volume.

The system now processes more dimensions of user context.

Running 15 variations of the same hook gives the algorithm 15 nearly identical signals.

Running five genuinely different creative concepts - different angles, formats, emotional tones, problem framings - gives the algorithm a broader signal set to match against the full range of user contexts it's now modeling.

The Instagram Allocation Check

Instagram has the new system live. Facebook doesn't yet.

The Adaptive Ranking Model launched on Instagram in Q4 2025 - rollout to Facebook and other placements is expected throughout 2026 but no confirmed date.

For accounts heavily weighted toward Facebook Feed, the +5% CTR and +3% conversion lift are specifically on Instagram.

If your current split underweights Instagram relative to Facebook, the performance gap between the two placements may have widened since Q4 2025 without a clear explanation in your account data.

Here’s how to see if it’s affecting you:Pull Instagram vs. Facebook conversion rate and CPM side by side for the last 90 days vs. Q4 2025.

If Instagram is running meaningfully more efficient than Facebook in Q1 2026 compared to the prior period, the Adaptive Ranking Model is a likely contributing factor. That's a budget allocation signal worth acting on before the model rolls to Facebook and the gap closes.

Final Thoughts

The impact of the Adaptive Ranking Model has been out since March 31.

If you're spending significant money on Instagram, you need to update your creative strategy and placement allocation to match what the new system rewards.

The window to get ahead of it is now - before the model rolls to Facebook and the playing field levels.

The algorithm just got better at finding your buyer. The question is whether your creative deserves what happens next.
