The cheapest way to lower your CPM before BFCM

One brand cut its CPM 29% without a new account. Here's the 30-minute audit.

At Nord Media, we focus on profitable growth at scale, we help forecast revenue, and contribution margin goals, then build the marketing plans to execute those goals.

Right now, in every media buying community, someone is burning down their Business Manager and rebuilding it to escape rising CPMs.

The same ads go into the new account, and the CPM comes right back.

My read is that the thing being priced moved with them.

Think of a restaurant that moves to a new building with the same menu: the reviews follow the food.

Here’s what this means…

What Might Actually Be Getting Priced

The rebuild makes sense if you believe the account is the problem.

And for years, that WAS a reasonable belief. Accounts carried history, and a bad history seemed to follow you around.

But Andromeda changes where I'd look.

Andromeda is Meta's retrieval engine, the layer that decides which ads are even candidates before the auction runs.

One thing practitioners increasingly believe it looks at is creative similarity.

When an account's creative looks alike, the engine treats it as repetitive and fatiguing, and the account pays for that in CPM.

That matters because a portfolio full of near-identical ads gives the system less variety to work with, and rebuilding the account doesn't necessarily solve anything.

You're just putting the same creative into a new container.

I want to be clear about what this is. Meta has not published any of it, and nobody outside Meta can see exactly how Andromeda evaluates creative.

But the pattern is showing up often enough that I'd plan around it.

The slowest stretch of an affiliate program comes before anyone's recruited.

You open a profile, watch the content, size up the audience, dig for an email, and only then write the pitch.

SATHI (the affiliate platform for Shopify brands) just launched Match to cut that down.

It's creator discovery is built into the platform:

- It starts with your Shopify store data and suggests creators aligned with your brand.

- From there, you narrow the list by niche, follower range, creator location and audience location.

- Each profile then shows recent content and audience signals before you commit.

- AI personalizes the invite. You edit it and send it without leaving SATHI.

The part I like is the order. You check the fit first and reach out second. AI surfaces the creators and you choose who gets invited.

Two Data Points Worth Looking At

The first comes from a fitness apparel case study.

CPM went from $7.20 to $5.10, a 29% drop, with creative diversification and audience segmentation doing the work.

That's one vendor case study, so I wouldn't treat it as proof.

The second is more interesting.

An operator on r/FacebookAds cleaned roughly 3,000 spam comments from their ads. Around 40% were scam links.

After cleaning them up, they reported:

• CPM down 18%• ROAS up 11%• CTR unchanged

If CTR didn't change, then people weren't suddenly clicking more. Something upstream changed its mind about the ad.

The platform appears to have changed how it valued or distributed the ads.

Again, this isn't a controlled study.

One is a vendor case and the other is a single operator's account.

But both examples point toward the same idea:

There are quality signals affecting your media costs that don't show up as a column in Ads Manager.

Creative variety may be one of them.

What Diversity Actually Means

Creative diversity does not mean making 20 versions of the same ad. Ten hooks around the same argument are still basically one idea.

So is:

• A new headline• A different background• A tighter crop• The same testimonial cut into three lengths

Those are useful tests. I just wouldn't count them as genuinely different creative angles.

What the engine seems to reward is range.

• Gift angle• Problem-solving angle• Founder-led explanation• Before/after comparison• Product demonstration• Customer objection

Each one gives a different person a different reason to buy the same product.

The test I'd run: describe every live ad in one sentence that starts with "Buy this because."

If six of your ten ads finish that sentence the same way, I'd count those six as one ad.

I argued a while back that AI creative is a selection problem and that you should pick winners ruthlessly.

What I'd add is that the breadth of the portfolio now carries its own price tag.

The two fit together fine. Build a diverse slate, then prune it hard.

The Q4 Math and the Move

CPMs are already expected to rise sharply as November auctions get more competitive.

Strike Social's tracker has historically shown CPMs climbing 25–60% from November into mid-December.

So here's the 30-minute audit I'd run this week:

1. Audit the live account by angle. Ad count tells you nothing here.

2. Pull every active ad into a sheet and give each one an "angle" tag.

3. Then sort your spend by angle.

You're looking for concentration.

I don't have a magic threshold, and I'd be suspicious of anyone who claims to.

In the accounts I look at, when one argument holds more than half the spend, I treat it as a flag.

If that's you, the November slate needs new arguments. New crops of the old one won't read as new.

You already have a place to pull them from. The angles that showed signal in September's testing window are the shortlist.

The one thing I wouldn't do is rebuild the account. That's a week of work spent moving the same problem to a new address.

You can't out-bid an engine that thinks you're boring.
